At the University of Michigan a self-perpetuating group of senior medical students is organized as The Victor C. Vaughan Society for the study of Medical History. The present volume contains twelve essays read before this group during the year 1930-31. The "Builders" who are the subjects of these essays are Zabdiel Boylston, Benjamin Rush, Ephraim McDowell, William Beaumont, Samuel D. Gross, Sr., Oliver Wendell Holmes, Austin Flint, William Pepper, Silas Weir Mitchell, John Shaw Billings, Walter Reed and Victor C. Vaughan. Naturally, a senior medical student can seldom be a researcher in Medical History in the sense of bringing forth
