The calamities associated with coronary sclerosis occupy a more dramatic and tragic place in the public consciousness today than the fatalities due to any other disease of mankind. It is not the fact that heart disease leads all other causes of death, but the sudden and often unanticipated demise of an individual with coronary sclerosis, which emphasizes the uncertain tenure of life. Scarcely a day passes but the papers chronicle the sudden death of one individual or of more than one who is preëminent in the social, political, or financial life of the community.
