This is a readable and useful book on the treatment of overweight, couched in language midway between vernacular and textbook. Endowed with British whimsy, and aimed for the use of the lay person, it proceeds with moderate pedagogical repetition at a slow and steady pace. There is an unusual plowing up of superstitions and a most serious discussion of the disadvantages of being fat. The "banana and milk" diet is properly expounded.
