Over a period of fourteen years the writer has been interested in the subject of pain arising from the viscera of the digestive canal. Long series of normal individuals and of patients have been studied as to the nature and site of their painful sensations when a small balloon was inflated, causing distention at a definite level in the tract. In general, the results are confirmatory of those obtained by others. The presentation of these experiments yields an interesting review of the subject.
