In the two and one half years that have elapsed since Astwood's1 discovery and use of the potent agent, thiouracil, numerous investigators have fully confirmed his original observations and have added much useful data regarding the behavior of this chemical substance. This invested effort is now beginning to show returns in increased interest in and better understanding of the general nature of its action on the thyroid, and in a growing recognition of the value of thiouracil for combating the thyrotoxic state and reducing it to a safe tractable level.
