This is by far the most important book on psychiatry in World War II so far published. The author was, for the major part of the war, Chief Consultant in Neuropsychiatry to the Surgeon General. He describes, with much documentation, the size and characteristics of the task, the errors made, the obstacles encountered and the results achieved. He demonstrates how the lessons learned in World War I were almost completely ignored and forgotten by the Army before World War II.
