This discussion of allergy in the aged is justified by a number of reasons. There are differences in the incidence of the various kinds of allergic diseases and at times also differences in the clinical pictures of the same disease in the old as compared with younger patients. Chronicity is a major characteristic of allergic disorders in the elderly. There are significant differences in etiologic factors and in non-allergic complications encountered in the aged with allergic conditions.
