The volume is divided into three sections. Section I, edited by Lyman C. Craig, consists of physico-chemical methods of separation of biological compounds. These methods are counter-current distribution, paper chromatography, electrophoresis and ultracentrifugation. These methods have stimulated progress in medical research in recent years and promise much for the future.
Section III, edited by Melvin Cohn, also involves separations. These are of immunological substances. The separations are by ethanol fractionation and by precipitin reactions in liquid media and in gels.
