The meeting of internists that will take place in Philadelphia on April 23 to 26, 1958, merits worldwide attention. It will be the first American international congress devoted to all aspects of internal medicine. It is taking place in the United States at the invitation of The American College of Physicians. Although four congresses of the International Society of Internal Medicine have been held previously, all were in Europe, and although the membership already had included many other nations it was composed largely of Europeans. America was chosen for the Fifth Congress at the urgent request of the Executive Committee
