The accelerated ("malignant") form of hypertension is characterized by the presence of widespread necrotizing arteriolitis and proliferative endarteritis. When it appears after the prior development of primary (essential) hypertension, it has been regarded by some investigators as a phase representing an increased intensity of the hypertensive process.
A number of clinical observations1, 2 support the view that factors other than tempo play at least a part. The present study deals with the frequencies of ABO blood groups.
