This book is described by its author as a manual to help busy practitioners. To achieve this goal many signs and symptoms of endocrine disorders are given, followed by similar listings of therapies. A light frosting of text attempts to serve as a cement.
An underlying assumption of this approach is that adequate diagnosis and intelligent therapy can be obtained without understanding of the mechanisms of disease. I know of no segment of medicine in which this is less true than in endocrinology. For example, in the diagnosis of Sheehan's syndrome a few tests should suffice for the capable clinician
