Newer developments in understanding the mechanism of protein biosynthesis and its control have important implications for medicine. These findings are discussed with particular reference to the phenomenon of liver regeneration as an experimental system. Their potential significance for an understanding of the mechanism of antibody biosynthesis are discussed.
