A detailed clinical exposition of neoplasia affecting the esophagus is here offered, with good illustrations and a good index. Mortality from cancer of the esophagus in England and Wales is subjected to cohort analysis and related to other death rates; mortality patterns for carcinoma of the esophagus in seventeen other countries are also compared.
The various factors which seem to predispose subjects to carcinoma of the esophagus are covered well. It was noted that an association existed between the occurrence of esophageal cancer in females and areas of siliceous rocks, such as granite and syenite. The authors speculate that such
