In his introduction the author states that he hopes this monograph will be valuable as a text for medical students and practitioners; but it was not clear to this reviewer at what stage in the curriculum the student should read the book nor for what purpose the practitioner would resort to it. The monograph consists of eleven chapters on the physiology of the gastrointestinal tract, including one on the biliary tree and another on hunger and thirst. There are a number of very well-reproduced photomicrographs and roentgenograms. However, as a whole, the presentation of gastrointestinal physiology is lacking in detail
