In an admirably clear fashion, this short monograph outlines current concepts about what insulin is and does, the consequences of its lack in terms of alterations in the intermediary metabolism of glucose, fat, and protein, and, finally, the status of treatment with insulin preparations and various oral hypoglycemics. The reader is given a highly sophisticated, readable, and pertinent picture of the interlocking multi-enzyme systems of the major pathways of intermediary metabolism.
