A mucoprotein detected in the matrix of urinary calculi by immunological techniques has been recovered from the urine of patients forming urinary calculi. There is some positive correlation between the presence of this material in the urine and the rate and rapidity with which renal calculi have recently formed. No immunologically similar material has been recovered from normal urine, normal kidneys, or a number of body fluids and exudates. Immunologically similar material has been recovered from the kidneys of patients with renal calculi and other diseases and from certain other body tissues and secretions.
