A reversed diurnal excretory rhythm of water, creatinine, and electrolytes was observed in a woman with fluid retention that first appeared after a head injury. Synthetic oxytocin produced a diuresis and restored a normal excretory rhythm. Recumbency for 24 hours also induced a return to normal rhythm. Spontaneous resumption of a normal cycle of renal excretion, even when the patient continued to be up and about during the day, was sometimes observed 1 day before menstruation.
