As the author states in his preface, "this is a book for clinicians by a clinician." Although, generally, the author has succeeded in conveying in simple fashion the basic concepts of steroid chemistry, a number of shortcomings should be pointed out.
Some of the modern terminology should have been included, such as androstane (new: 5α-androstane), aetiocholane (new: 5β-androstane), allopregnane (new: 5α-pregnane) and pregnane (new: 5β-pregnane). There are a few instances of lack of clarity. A conspicuous example of this is the discussion of the concept of an α, β-unsaturated ketone (pages 35, 36) which is completely misrepresented.
