Two guides describing the generic basis of commercial drugs, single and compound, and their dosage forms and uses. Drug Index is more concise and appears yearly. The Drug Encyclopedia offers longer descriptions of compound drugs and much more detail on the proper use of each drug, and is kept up to date by subsequent issues of Modern Drugs, a periodical supplement. Either book may be useful to the clinician who does not confine himself to the use of generic drug names in the use of his prescription writing, and does not avoid the prescribing of drug mixtures.
