Rarely do three texts indispensible to the serious study of renal diseases appear within one year. So intense is investigation in this field—histochemical analysis and electron microscopy of biopsy plugs, study of renal metabolism, pursuit of the kidney's function in hematopoiesis, to cite a few areas of work—that a likely author of a text on any aspect of the kidney might, on reflection, demur from fulfilling his contract with a publisher on the grounds that a monograph appearing now may be antique 3 years hence.
