The emergence of new political units in Africa and the enhanced medical awareness of countries situated along the equatorial belt is ample justification for a book of this kind. Its author obviously has the kind of field experience that most Western physicians and pharmacologists lack, hence, he can speak authoritatively where others would rather suspend judgment.
The book, however, does not fully satisfy in its 276 pages the demand inherent to its ambitious title, unless one should consider it as the necessary prolegomenon to all future tropical therapeutics. The effort to cover the whole field has induced its author to
