The presence of guanase in liver has been known since 1928, yet no attempt has been made to utilize this enzyme in the assessment of liver function or as an indicator of the various types of liver diseases. We reported that the presence of this enzyme in the peripheral circulation as the result of changes in the liver cell has formed the basis of a laboratory diagnostic procedure for the differential diagnosis of jaundice.
