The third edition of Merritt's A Textbook of Neurology is a succinct summary of existing knowledge concerning the pathology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the nervous system. Actually, a more appropriate title for the book would be Diseases of the Nervous System because of the omission of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, techniques of history-taking and neurologic examination, neuro-ophthalmology, electroencephalography, electromyography, and electric stimulation of peripheral nerves and muscles, neuroradiologic procedures, and examination of the cerebrospinal fluid.
Divided into nine chapters beginning with infectious disorders and concluding with paroxysmal disorders, the text is well-organized, and has an excellent index; the author
