The aberration in cardiopulmonary hemodynamics occurring in emphysematous subjects at rest is well-known, although there is no clear resolution of the question of the level of the cardiac output. There is much less information concerning the hemodynamics during exercise in such subjects and a paucity of information pertaining to the pulmonary vascular resistance in this disease. The cardiopulmonary hemodynamic data of 53 emphysematous subjects studied at rest and 44 of these subjects studied during exercise are reported in this paper.
