As the author makes clear in his preface, this is a book written for the busy practitioner and not for the investigator. As such, it should also be of value to the busy medical student. The sections dealing with the history and theory of blood coagulation and with the diagnosis of hemophilia and similar hemorrhagic disorders are excellent. Dr. Hougie presents the basic coagulation mechanism in easily understood words and diagrams, omitting intermediate steps which are not yet fully established.
