According to the preface the author has deliberately set himself the goal of writing a survey of the essential signs and symptoms of disturbances of water and electrolyte balance from the predominantly practical point of view, omitting as much as possible of the theoretical background. The result is a short monograph that enumerates the clinical features of the various deviations from the norm, and the procedures to correct them. A short chapter is devoted to pediatric questions, another to parenteral nutrition.
