This small manual is meant to provide a birds-eye view of rheumatology. According to the author this field has been a "stepchild in the family of academic medicine" until recently; consequently, its principles have been poorly taught in medical schools. It is to those poorly taught physicians who are daily faced with rheumatologic problems that the book is directed. The liberal use of graphs, schematic representations of concepts, and tables of clinically applicable data (such as segmented muscle innervations) go far to achieve this goal.
