To bring order out of chaos, that has been the central aim of the International Committee on Blood Clotting Factors since its creation in 1954. The chaos refers primarily to the problem of nomenclature of clotting factors. While the Committee's adoption in 1958 of a Roman numeral system of nomenclature was a noteworthy accomplishment, many investigators have persisted in using their own pet terminology in their writings.
