On occasion we contemplate the future event when computers will simulate a considerable part of intellectual activity. But before use of the written language atrophies, we have to contend with attempts to simulate a computer. The treatise submitted for review is such a vehicle for information retrieval—an economical assortment of references accompanied by a depth of critical analysis that one might expect of a contemporary computer. It might be titled "An Annotated Bibliography of Gastrointestinal Absorption, 1910-1960." The only clue to the purpose and scope of this effort is the statement that the author read over 5,000 papers and presents
