Dr. bowers has written an entertaining and informative little book on a fascinating subject. He has recorded the origins, development, and present status of Japanese medical education with sympathy, humor, and insight. Of particular interest are biographical sketches of two individuals as they pursue their careers from secondary school through the long postgraduate training period that characterizes the Japanese medical education experience. This small work is replete with historical and contemporary color, and the reader is introduced not only to Japanese medical education but also to a survey of current Japanese medical practice.
