As in most books by multiple authors, this new text shows in its various sections considerable variability in the quality of content and style. In general, coverage is reasonably complete, the text reads easily, indexing is good, and illustrations are of excellent quality. The colored illustrations in the section on the pathology of emphysema are noteworthy, and the laminated lung macrosections included with the book will be of considerable interest to most readers.
Part One, which is devoted to diagnostic methods, deals with specific findings and tests only superficially, and a "schematic guide" for evaluation of patients with pulmonary disease
