Several cases of the nephrotic syndrome associated with active syphilitic infection have been reported in the past (1-16). Because of the self-limited nature of this illness, however, there have been few reports containing histologic descriptions of the kidney during the active phase of the nephrotic syndrome. Robins and Ladd (13) reported a case in 1962 in which they included descriptions of two renal biopsies. One biopsy was taken during the active phase of the disease, but after the initiation of therapy, and the other was obtained 1 month later.
