To the Editor: At The American College of Physicians' meeting in Chicago (1) in March this year I reported on experiments indicating that linolenic acid might reduce the tendency to secondary thrombosis in atherosclerotic disease by reducing the adhesion-aggregation tendency of the blood platelets. This suggestion was based on the following findings:
1. Clinical coronary disease is associated with an abnormally increased adhesion-aggregation tendency of the blood platelets as measured by Hellem's method. This might mean an increased tendency to thrombosis.
