Dr. Marshall has carefully reviewed the older literature on pulmonary embolism and has compiled 484 references of the previous clinical and experimental studies of this disease. He describes in detail the origin of the emboli, factors influencing thrombosis and embolism, the physiological impact of the embolus on the lung and the circulation as well as the eventual fate of the emboli.
