Since its publication in 1949, the textbook by the late Professor D. H. Collins has been the standard reference work on the morbid anatomy of articular disease. That volume is out of print, and its publishers have now issued a new work that extends the scope of its predecessor. Commendably, it includes a consideration of what frequently are called by others "collagen diseases" and, in addition, numerous advances in rheumatology that have taken place in the past 15 years. The author deliberately abandons the term "rheumatism" and proposes that "connective tissue diseases" is a more rational approximation of his subject
