The third edition of this well-balanced and very readable textbook does not pretend to be of interest to the professional pharmacologist or to anyone seeking a reference book. It is admittedly written for the medical student and for the practicing physician. Data derived from animal experimentation are cited only if none are available from experimentation in man. Although newer developments are given priority, the history of modern pharmacology is not completely neglected. References are restricted to pertinent documentation and recent reviews. Accepted data are emphasized and controversy is identified as such. Separate chapters on such compounds as disinfectants and insecticides
