Despite some criticism that the recently published monograph by Masters and Johnson (1) on the physiology of coitus and the orgasm does not present its information in the conventional format of scientific reports, it is clear that it does bring new, detailed, and important observations to an area long conspicuously lacking information derived from the direct study of man. The investigations of the Kinsey group, devoted chiefly to quantifying who was doing what and how often, hardly touched on the physiological details of sexual activity, save for such data as penile size in erection.
