Gram-negative bacterial infections frequently complicate the management of patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis for renal failure. All require immediate and vigorous antibiotic therapy. Because the antibiotics recommended to effectively treat such infections frequently have toxic side effects, the dosage and frequency of administration of these agents become a critical factor in the care of uremic patients.
The work of Kunin and associates (1-3) has provided valuable information regarding the dosage schedule of many of the antibiotics commonly used in patients with impaired renal function. In addition, these authors presented some data on the removal of antibiotics by hemodialysis. In recent years
