A national symposium under the auspices of the Heart Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania on The Metabolic Basis of Human Atherosclerosis was held in Philadelphia in February. Dr. Peter T. Kuo and his program committee deserve the greatest praise for having organized this meeting at this time because, as it turned out, a variety of exciting developments over the past few years suddenly seemed to fall into place.
The first session of the symposium dealt with "Errors of Metabolism in Human Atherosclerosis," with papers on genetic factors (E. A. Murphy), genetic types of hyperlipidemia (D. S. Fredrickson), disturbances in carbohydrate metabolism
