The first meeting of the newly founded American Society of Nephrology was held October 18 and 19, 1967, at Los Angeles, Calif. Seldom has a scientific society had a more auspicious beginning. Having enrolled over a thousand members in 10 months, the American Society of Nephrology attracted 287 abstracts and about 1,100 scientists for this inaugural meeting.
Dr. Neal S. Bricker traced the history of the formation of the new Society in his Presidential Address and then addressed himself to the importantquestion of federal expenditures for chronic dialysis and transplantation. He acknowledged that the time for expansion of these facilities
