Judging from the sizes of the texts on modern bacteriology and virology, one invariably finds that the latter has outgrown the former. During the past 20 years virology has become one of the most important subspecialties in microbiology. Because of the rapid accumulation of knowledge, several annual reviews have been published in this country in order to cover the recent advances in virology. In Great Britain the first such book has just been published. The book covers nine separate subjects, each by a different author. The chapter "Nucleic Acids of Viruses" is concise and informative. The chapter "Multiplication of Myxoviruses"
