American Medical Science owes much of its style to the physiological attack on clinical problems so characteristic of the best of British and Scandinavian medicine. And it owes much of its vigor to those investigators trained in that setting who subsequently came to our medical schools and institutes. Both of these contributions from abroad are illustrated in the January 1968 issue of Postgraduate Medical Journal, a Festschrift for Sir John McMichael, formerly Director of the Department of Medicine, Postgraduate Medical School of London, and now Director of the British Postgraduate Medical Federation.
