The frequency of diabetes in the population insures a continued interest in insulin metabolism by physicians. There is also a large research interest that is amply demonstrated by the need to review the subject frequently. This review shows that a good deal of solid information is available on what insulin does, but how it causes these diverse effects and how secretion is regulated remains largely unknown. The book is primarily research-oriented and will be of interest to workers in the field who need an up-to-date summary. Most of the controversial areas are mentioned, and an extensive reference list is available.
