To the Editor: The recent review of "Diabetes Mellitus: Current Concepts and Vascular Lesions" (Ann. Intern. Med. 68: 634, 1968) was indeed informative and read with great interest. The results of stereotaxic cryohypophysectomy in carefully selected cases seem promising. Dr. Rand stated that this procedure "carries a smaller prevalence of complications than alternative surgical techniques for pituitary ablation." In a series of pituitary ablations by stalk section (1), similar results were obtained, but two deaths that were attributed to hypoglycemia or possibly adrenal insufficiency were also noted.
