A recent report by Lequesne (1) adds more evidence to previous studies (2-4) predicating that roentgenologic transient osteoporosis of the hip can be recognized as a definite syndrome. His paper is the third in the past 3 years to focus attention on this previously unrecognized entity and to suggest that it may be relatively common. It is important to be aware of this syndrome because it appears to resolve without specific treatment and because roentgenograms may initially suggest an infectious or neoplastic lesion.
