Data indicating that greater dimensions for body and limb girths and breadths are associated with higher prevalence of osteoarthritis in both men and women. For example, men with seats wider than 13.7 inches are more than twice as likely to have osteoarthritis of the feet than those with breadths less than 12.1 inches. These associations are strongest in the age group 45 to 54 and are stronger in women than in men.
