Growth and differentiation is as much a part of the life of a book as it is of any other life. Thus, it is not surprising that this second edition of Modern Trends in Immunology should be almost half again as large as its antecedent. The first edition, perhaps not surprisingly since it was a first adventure, addressed itself broadly to the 1963 understanding of the natures of antigens, antibodies, and natural and induced immune responses; and then to hypersensitivity, autoallergic states, and transplantation immunity.
