The author directs his discussion to all physicians and surgeons concerned with the diagnosis and immediate management of stroke. The description of results, primarily of carotid endarterectomy, is based on his experiences in collaboration with neurologists, neurosurgeons, vascular surgeons, internists, and radiologists.
