The goal of teaching the psychology of the practice of medicine as well as the basics of clinical psychiatry is a commendable one. This text succeeds in this goal and, in addition, attempts an exposition of the techniques of psychotherapy suitable for use by both nonpsychiatrists and psychiatrists. This multigoaled approach has resulted in some redundancy. For instance, such topics as traumatic neurosis, addiction, and alcoholism are discussed in more than one section.
