In view of the great need for publications that make psychiatric knowledge available to medical practitioners, it is distressing to report that Practical Psychiatry for the Internist misses the mark. Although there is worthwhile material in most of the chapters, the book shows serious limitations both in practicality and soundness of content.
A major problem is that Drs. Goldman and Ulett have attempted to do too much in too little space. They have tried to cover the life cycle from birth to death, say something about each of the major conditions listed in the standard Classification of Mental Disorders, and
